Biography

Stefano Lentini

ITA

Stefano Lentini is an Italian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His music is rooted in a lifelong curiosity about sound, instruments and the art of recording.

He began composing as a child on a classical guitar built by his grandfather, a carpenter. This hands-on relationship with instruments soon extended to recording. In the 1980s, he began experimenting with tape machines at home, overdubbing and manipulating sounds, and discovering how recording itself could become part of the creative process.

That early curiosity later found a broader perspective through his studies in Cultural Anthropology and his interest in ethnomusicology. Together, they shaped an approach in which each project becomes an exploration of context, memory, ritual, voice, timbre and the meanings music can acquire within a particular culture or story.

Before focusing primarily on composition, Lentini worked as a sound engineer, an experience that remains central to his practice. His interest in acoustics, recording spaces, microphone techniques and resonance reflects a view of the studio not simply as a place to document music, but as an integral part of the composition itself.

He has composed original scores for numerous Italian and international film and television productions, including "The Sea Beyond" (Seasons 1–6), "La Porta Rossa" (Seasons 1–3), "Braccialetti Rossi" (Seasons 1–3), "Belcanto" and "Studio Battaglia" (Seasons 1–2). His credits span more than 180 episodes of European television series, as well as projects distributed by Netflix, HBO, Disney+ and Prime Video. His composition "Stabat Mater" was featured in the soundtrack of Wong Kar-wai’s "The Grandmaster", a film that received two Academy Award nominations.

Alongside his screen work, he develops albums and independent projects spanning composition, performance, production and sound research. His collaborations include Leléka, Charlie Winston, Raiz, Clara and Tom Baxter, as well as orchestras, choirs and soloists internationally.

His music has surpassed 100 million streams across digital platforms and earned five SIAE Awards, a Double Platinum certification and two Gold Records. "La Colonna Sonora", a RAI-produced documentary exploring the music of "Mare Fuori", is a finalist in the Performing Arts category at Prix Italia 2026.

Lentini also worked on the music for Italian figure skater Daniel Grassl’s Olympic program. Grassl contributed to Italy’s bronze medal in the figure skating team event at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

He has taught courses and masterclasses at institutions and events including the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, Piano City, Torino Film Festival and Screen Music Program.

He is the founder and artistic director of Coloora, a music production company and record label. In his studio, he develops original soundtracks, solo projects and productions for other artists, maintaining a hands-on approach to composition, sound and recording. His piano scores have been published by Curci Editore.

Lentini is represented internationally by the Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency (GSA) in Los Angeles.
